Bella Hadid has walked the runway for countless top luxury brands in addition to serving as the face of important fashion weeks and events throughout the globe. She does, however, acknowledge that being nearer to her Muslim heritage is the one thing she misses the most. The supermodel, who is of Palestinian descent, discussed making her acting debut in the Emmy-nominated series “Ramy” in a recent interview with GQ magazine. She claimed that when she first arrived on set on the first day, she sobbed as the crew gave her a t-shirt that read, “Free Palestine.” “I was unable to control my feelings. Being Arab and growing up, it was the first time I had ever been around others who shared my views.”

Bella is the child of Yolanda Hadid, a Dutch model, and Mohamed Hadid, a Palestinian real estate entrepreneur. The supermodel, Gigi Hadid’s younger sister, is also named Hadid. She has previously discussed Palestinian issues and continues to spread knowledge about the people living there and the current condition of affairs in the nation, which has long been at war with Israel’s neighbor. Bella was referred to in the GQ piece as “the most ardent American star for the Palestinian people.” One of her “biggest regrets,” she admitted to the magazine, is that she was not reared surrounded by “Muslim people,”, particularly after her parent’s divorce.

She was reportedly quoted as stating, “I would have loved to grow up and be with my dad every day and learn and truly be able to practice, just in general being able to live in a Muslim society. But I didn’t get it,” she continued. Bella was taken from her Palestinian side of the family in Washington, DC when she was a little child because her family had moved to California. The model stated, “I speak about [this material] for the children who can still grow up and have a lovely life, and for the elderly that are still living there who have never been able to see Palestine free.”

She acknowledged that being so outspoken about these issues could have an adverse effect on her career, but she told the outlet that she was unconcerned. “I came to the realization that I’m not here to be a model. I consider myself extremely fortunate and happy to be in a position to express my opinions in this manner.”
