Talented TV actor Gurdeep Kohli is very upbeat about the web medium. She is playing an important role in ALTBalaji show Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain.
“I have been waiting for years to play such a kind of character which TV did not allow for. Poonam gets a jolt of her life when husband of 25 years Rohit (Ronit Roy) decides to walk out on her. She is completely shattered having given her entire life to him and now this. At first she does not know how to react but later tries to work out things as per social norms, not wanting her daughter’s marriages to get affected.”
“The best part of our show is that it is very realistic. We have not tried to portray the other woman as bad. Rohit who himself was going through lot of pain entered Aannya’s ( Mona Singh) life and she accepted him. Our story throws up a lots of question is, Rohit completely wrong or right??”
“We have also tried to take on the notion that love only happens when you are young. But these things have consequences like Rohit’s daughter, Bani (Pooja Banerjee) ridicules him saying you again start saying. I love you at a time when I should be saying so.”
Gurdeep, who has been around for years (Sanjivani, Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka and Best of Luck Nikki), is now ready for more different kinds of roles. “I am very glad to have found perfect work and family balance. My producers have always given me meaty stuff.” Her last tube show was Sethji on ZeeTV.”
Talking about the rampant sleaze and abuse on the digital, this wife of TV actor Arjun Punj says, “You need to understand that web is built for personal viewing as opposed to family viewing dominated TV. There is an sizable adult segment which likes such content. Also bold is not only about skin show, even Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain can be called edgy.”
Going on she says, “Web content which accommodates both film and TV stars are like DVD films, having repeat value. No wonder they made slowly and stretches over number of episodes allowing the makers creative freedom.”
Would you be open for dare bare stuff yourself? “No after resisting temptation for 17 years, I don’t think I would be game for it now especially since have a husband and kids.”
