Anasua Chowdhury, who stars in the web series Waack Girls, revealed that her approach to preparing for a character largely depends on the time she has. She invests in thorough groundwork and uses her imagination to develop a well-rounded personality. In the series, Anasua plays LP, a fashion designer.

“It depends on how much time I get as an actor. Sometimes, things move very quickly—you get locked for a role, and before you know it, you’re already shooting. Other times, you have plenty of time to prepare. For my character LP in my current project Waack Girls, I had about a month to a month and a half to prepare,” she said.

“During that time, I did a lot of groundwork. I spent hours thinking about the character, creating a backstory, and building my own understanding of who she is—even before I got the script. Using my imagination and the limited details I had, I tried to picture her life, personality, and relationships,” she added.

She emphasized the importance of creating a backstory, stating, “Even if it’s not explicitly mentioned, a backstory is so important for an actor. It helps shape the character’s behaviour and mannerisms. I focused on details like how she might speak, sit, walk, and interact with people around her—friends, parents, or siblings. Every little thing matters when you’re bringing a character to life, and these small nuances help make her feel real and relatable.”

Anasua also stressed how deeply she immerses herself in the character’s background and personality. She explained, “I try to go as deep as possible so that when I’m performing a scene with another actor, I understand why I am delivering a line in a particular way or why my character is behaving a certain way. For example, if my character has a friend, I create a backstory for their relationship.”

“Maybe they have shared certain experiences in the past that influence how they interact now. Having this backstory makes everything feel more natural and meaningful. It helps me connect with the character on a deeper level and adds authenticity to my performance. So, I put a lot of effort into building these relationships and details,” she concluded.
