Dapper dude Karan Kundra is looking forward to Season 2 of the ALTBalaji show Dil Hi Toh Hai, which has just gone live. Season one of this love story, which also featured Yogita Bihani, also ran daily on Sony TV. “This time we are solely on web, and the upload frequency will be triweekly.”
Talking about Season 1, he says, “Having been asked to join shoot in a hurry, for a brief while I did not know what was happening. But soon things stabilized and I was happy to find out that our love story was not your normal TV romance but something different. The fact that it also became popular was the icing on the cake.”
Going on, Karan who was first noticed on TV with Kitani Mohabbat Hai, says, “Kudos to Balaji for having ended Season 1 with the lead characters parting ways, thereby setting the stage for an exciting Season 2. If you notice, our take this time around, given the medium, is completely different. Also, we could treat the content in non-traditional ways.”
Will Season 2 be bolder and edgier than the first edition given that you don’t have channel norms to adhere to? “We have not gone bold. Having said that, we also need to accept that unlike TV, where we have to be careful given that we have diverse audiences, web is more personal -you first need to download the app and then search for what you want. So that way you know what you are looking for.”
“What I like best about web is that you can stay true to your genre compared to TV where, in attempts to meet TRP demands, core genres do get altered,” says Karan, whose other TV shows have included Fanah, Roadies and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, etc.
Having wrapped up the shoot for Dil Hi Toh Hai, Karan is in Goa for MTV’S Love School 4 with the love of his life, VJ Anushka Dandekar. “The most important thing that keeps a relationship ticking is understanding. There are lots of stuff that you have to compromise, but then you know that it’s worth. Trust, which is a tough commodity to find in Tinsel Town, has to build through sheer hard work. For example, we spend most of our time away from each other, yet know that we are one.”
Besides TV and web, Karan is also a known name in cinema, with the success of Mubarakan and 1921. “I have high hopes from my next, Alankrita Shrivastava-directed flick, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, which also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Vikrant Massey, etc.”
Best of luck, Karan!!
