Gandii Baat type stuff is not my cup of tea: Asmita Sood

South film actor, Asmita Sood, who had taken a TV detour with Phir Bhi Hai Badtameez, is not very happy with the small screen and would henceforth prefer to dabble only in web and films which offer complex characters.

For the moment, she is being seen in Season 2 of Alt Balaji show, Dil Hi Toh Hai. “I really enjoyed this ride. It was better compared to its earlier hybrid (on Sony as well ) avatar. This time around, all the characters got their due, unlike season 1, which was very typical.”

“My biggest grouse with TV is its rural and supernatural storyboards. Their characterization (chudails and sweet village belles) is also not so me.”

“I don’t watch TV anymore. As a child living in a small town, I would not miss the K serials (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii). But today, even my family in Shimla avoid the tube. Digital content, on the other hand, speaks to the youth and is the future for sure.”

Here Asmita adds that had her debut TV show, Phir Bhi Hai Badtameez, which had a youthful musical flavour, come today on the web, it would have been a huge hit. “It had sadly sunk without a trace when it premiered on Star Plus in 2015. Today I get fan mails from young kids in other countries where it is getting aired now.”

She was non-committal about being part of season 3 of Dil Hi Toh Hai, which will soon go on the floors. “We are yet to have a meeting, where our character sketches and other details will be explained.”

Unlike many TV actresses, Asmita has no problems with bold per se, “As long as the scenes are required by the narrative. Although Game Of Thrones had lots of nudity, yet it did not look vulgar. Gandii Baat type stuff is not my cup of tea.”

Asmita, who had done several south films before entering TV, has just seen one more Kannada release, Victory 2. “As I said above, all I am looking for is good film work, be it Hindi or regional. I love sweet concepts like Luka Chuppi, and yes, multi-starrers as well.”
