I am waiting for that mass recognition as a performer: Dilnaz Irani of Aarya 2 and Decoupled fame

Dilnaz Irani who was seen in Aarya 2 and Decoupled talks about her experiences and what she awaits in the future.

Dilnaz Irani has been a popular name in the fields of theatre, web, TV and films. The actress who came to the limelight initially with her portrayal in the web series Twisted 2 has had a great year with two big releases coming her way. While she played the public prosecutor in the Disney Plus Hotstar series Aarya 2, she was seen in a very interesting role in the Netflix series Decoupled.

Says Dilnaz, “After the nomination for the Emmys, the expectations on Aarya 2 grew even bigger. Aarya 2 was a great experience for me. Working with Ram Madhvani Sir is an experience in itself. I have always admired his work. When you see the series, you understand that there were a lot of improvisations in the lines and sequences. Once I started work, it was up to my expectations and even more. I have not worked with anyone on screen who shoots and directs like him. Above all, he is a lovely human being. The manner in which Ram Sir throws up his googlies by introducing a character in the sequence from out of the script and sees how the actor reacts, or comes up with a different situation altogether while shooting, is simply amazing.”

Dilnaz who played a woman public prosecutor in Aarya 2 feels that in the era we are in, it is sad to know that there are not many women lawyers in litigation and criminal law. “It was a challenge for me to not only play a lawyer but a woman lawyer,” states Dilnaz.

Ask Dilnaz about the kind of work she will want now, and she is quick to say, “I am hoping that my work gets recognized. Even though I have been working for so many years, I feel that I am yet to get mass value and mass recognition that makes an actor go a stage higher. So I am waiting for that to happen. I know I am appreciated for whatever I have done so far. But I am looking for that mass appeal coming from viewers.”

As for the kind of concepts that delights Dilnaz, she speaks up saying, “For me, it is the full script that needs to be grat. The Director I am working with is very important for me. I have to say that I have been very lucky with the kind of projects that have come my way.”

“I like the realistic concepts, and don’t like the filmy plots. I love crime thrillers, though the drama is my forte. It is fun to be part of comedy too. Frankly speaking, I am open to a lot of genres,” she adds.

Dilnaz is suggestive of the fact that OTT is coming up with enormous content, both good and not so good. She points to the fact that one needs to look out for the standard of content that they are being a part of. “The boom that was TV a couple of years back is now OTT. I hope the standard of content made available on the web holds on. As for me, I am hoping to be associated with the good projects on OTT.”

Best of luck, Dilnaz!!
