I personally don’t find hook-up culture cool, relationships aren’t everyone’s cup of tea – Shreya Gupto

Check out our exclusive conversation with Shreya Gupto for season 2 of Alright's Couple Goals

After the enormous success of season 1, ‘Alright’ is back once again with the second season of the popular web series, Couple Goals. Couple Goals season 2 is about a couple who have left their corporate jobs to live their entrepreneurial dream together. The show focuses on their challenges and their personal life in an extremely light-hearted manner. Season 2 stars Shreya Gupto & Keshav Sadhna in lead roles. We, at IWMBuzz, engaged in an interesting exclusive conversation with Shreya about the show, her own relationship experiences, future projects & more. Read to find out –

Shreya, what according to you is the ideal definition of the two words ‘couple goals’?

It merely means a couple targeting specific goals together and working as a team to achieve them. A goal that benefits the couple and the process strengthens their bond.

How interesting was it to play your character here in season 2 and did you learn any aspects about relationships?

Couple Goals S 2 has a very fresh approach towards love. Playing an on-screen urban newly married woman who left her well-paid corporate job and now is striving hard to fulfill her dreams with her husband gave the realistic approach towards relationship & love. It’s not the mushy, cheesy I LOVE YOUs which signifies love ever. It’s the challenges as a couple you take and work as a team to live it together. Knowing all these and executing it all was extremely interesting. I’ve done tons of mushy videos on YouTube, I’m glad my audience will see the real relationship hurdles through CGS2. Thanks to Harshpal Singh for writing this. Portraying reality is always interesting and fun. My director Nishant Sharma has guided me through each and every scene and gave me the liberty to live Barkha from my own perspective. That kind of freedom along with his
guidance was fun.

The show is about a couple leaving their corporate jobs to live their dream entrepreneurial life together. Did you ever take any bold calls in a relationship with your partner now or earlier which you are proud of?

Oh yes. Deciding to have a long-distance relationship to fulfill our dreams in respective cities is the boldest decision we’ve taken. As mentioned earlier, love is not about staying together all the time, or cheesy dates or whatever it shows on-screen most of the time. Real-life hurdles require real-life struggles and when you’ve got a partner to push & motivate you, that for me is ‘Couple Goal’. At the end of it, both the individuals should be living their respective passion & dreams.

What’s your definition of an ‘ideal relationship’ and what are the most exciting aspects of season 2 of Couple Goals?

The ideal relationship is where you don’t hold back the other person. You set them free with space, trust, and faith. You let them be the way they’re and enjoy their life while you do the same. The ideal relationship is FRIENDSHIP followed by the deepest understanding. The most exciting aspects in CGS2 is their dream together, their individual relationship with Madhav, the head cook in the show, how Madhav admires Anirudh as an inspiration, the lovable emotional rollercoaster coaster these 3 characters go through together, and a lot more minute things which can go on and on. I’m clearly in love with the show (smiles).

Do you think in today’s hook-up culture, the essence of relationships is getting affected to an extent?

Definitely, to a major extent. I agree with the clinical psychologist Jorden Peterson about hookup culture being an EMPTY culture. Relationships aren’t everyone’s cup of tea as you’ve to work around it. It’s not that you fall in love and it’s happily ever after. If two different individuals want to work it out there’s a lot of effort in it and the result is that magical feeling of being loved, understood, motivated and inspired. You don’t get that in hook-up culture. And it is honestly not even cool. Challenges are cool, working out a relationship is cool. At least according to me. You can’t have ‘couple goals’ with hook-up culture and one doesn’t know what value they’re missing in life until they experience this most secure place.

Lastly, your favorite memory while shooting for this project and a message for your fans?

There are multiple favorite moments but if I’ve to be specific, it’s the last day of shoot where post shooting, we all were having exhausted tired faces & yet we managed to have a tiny wrap up party amidst a handful of people. There’s always an emotional connection at the end of every project, you tend to become friends with all and I love that feeling about shoots. To whoever is reading this, CGS2 is an extremely sweet, funny, and lighthearted mini-series that will not bore you at all. We all as a team have put in our best amidst the second wave to entertain all of you. Your love and support mean a lot. If you’ve not watched it, I urge you to and I promise you shall enjoy it.
