It appears that composing music is simple. All you need is a big Instagram account, an Auto-Tune producer and a label to help you navigate the music industry’s maze. Nobody seems to care about the grind, the ups, and downs of discovering your sound or passing out mixtapes on Miami Gardens street corners. It’s all about the numbers in this case. Who do you think has numbers? Lele Pons is a YouTube sensation.
When you hear her name, you might think of the time she photobombed Michelle Obama, her uncanny ability to create six-second videos or the time she dropped a music video. Pons, like every other social media celebrity, has branched out into music, releasing her second single, “Celoso,” which is surprisingly decent.
Pons is a Venezuelan native who attended Miami Country Day School, where she claims she was tormented and felt out of place. She began her career in showbiz by posting six-second Vine videos. In 2016, the app was shut down, leaving creators without a place to call home. Pons, on the other hand, was unfazed.
She began to create on YouTube and Instagram after that, and her following grew to over 26 million people. Her success inspired her to go out and start composing music. Talent trumps hard labor. No one works harder than Lele Pons, other than the Devil and Kris Jenner. Pons’ crew understands that “Celoso” isn’t the most difficult song to sing, but with such a wide platform, she can perform just about anything and get a reaction.
