Marry Me, Stranger might be one of the boldest desi web-series ever: Gaurav Chopraa

Will Applause Entertainment’s upcoming romantic thriller, the web series, Marry Me, Stranger, beat Netflix’s Sacred Games, in terms of boldness? Well, might be, as per smart dude, actor Gaurav Chopraa, who plays a pivotal role in the digital adaptation of Novoneel Chakraborty’s The Stranger Trilogy. Vineet Sharma (Kaal, No Smoking, etc), Priya Banerjee (Humein Tumse Pyaar Kitna) and dancer Ankur Rath complete the main cast.

“As It happens in 2018, romantic thrillers do follow the erotica pattern. This is my boldest role till date and might even be one of the boldest series to hit the web circuit so far,” says Gaurav, who seems to have been taken in by the digital crest. After doing FourPlay (Alt Balaji) and Love Lust and Confusion earlier, he is now shooting for the second season of the latter Viu series.

So will Marry Me, Stranger have more frontal nudity than Sacred Games, which was based on Vikram Chandra’s novel by the same  name? “No comment is all I will say; since it is based on a book, you can check it out, to guess the level of  boldness.”

“Having said that, the eroticism is garnished with mystery rather than kink. The presentation is grunge dark, rather than in your face. Interestingly, my character is not a part of the novel but has been added to raise suspense and curiosity. I can’t say much about what he does and why, but yes, he is inspired from Christian Grey, the character from superhit erotic flick, Fifty Shades of Grey,” added Gaurav, who seems to have taken a break from TV. Apart from web, he had played the main lead in a theatrical adaption of Devdas.

“Marry Me, Stranger will go on air as part of the first launches from the much-anticipated Applause OTT platform, headed by Samir Nair. Rose Audio Visual is the producer and Faruk Kabir will helm the director’s baton for this 13-episode series.

“I have known producer Goldie Behl for long. I was told that I fit the bill of looking classy and westernized. The main aim was make the love-making part appear classy and not vulgar.”

“If all goes well, they hope to dramatize the other books in subsequent seasons,” ended Gaurav.
