With critically acclaimed movies like Manto and popular web series like Mirzapur and Delhi Crime under her belt, it’s safe to say that 2018 was Rasika Dugal’s year. The actress who has been in the industry for a decade is known for her hatke roles and fine acting skills.
She embodies her characters and makes them stand out in a way that the audience may forget her name but never the character she played.
The 34 year old actress is a Mathematics graduate from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi. After which she continued to get her diploma in Social Communications Media and then attended the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) for a postgraduate diploma in acting.
After graduating from FTII, Rasika moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Like any other outsider, she struggled to land significant roles but took up each small part that came her way in spite of being advised to avoid them. Her slow start was worth it though because after doing smaller roles in 10 films, she ended up signing her first lead role in an independent film called ‘Kshay’ in 2011.
Before that she had made her first appearance in the movie Anwar in 2007 and a year later debuted in Tahaan. More than a decade in the industry and Rasika established herself as a solid actor with edgy roles and brilliant acting chops. She continues to do supporting roles and cameos but only if they excite her.
Apart from doing indie films, Rasika has also appeared in web series Permanent Roommates, Mirzapur, Delhi Crime, and Made in Heaven and so on. It was her role in Mirzapur that propelled her to popularity and put her into the spotlight with the mainstream audience.
She was also awarded as the Best Actor for her role in the movie Hamid at the Rajasthan International Film Festival late last year.
Rasika continues to wow the audience with her excellent screen presence and we are glad she is finally getting the recognition she deserves.
