There is no axe on creativity in the digital world: Gurdeep Kohli

Gurdeep Kohli talks about her first experience being part of the digital world.

Gurdeep Kohli, who has charmed audience with her warm personality and exceptional acting skills in shows like Sanjivani, Sindoor Tere Naam Ka, Dil Ki Baatein Dil Hi Jaane and Sethji, is elated to be part of a web series.

The thespian, who will be seen in ALT Balaji’s upcoming web-series Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai feels that the digital platform gives more creative freedom to actors than TV.

“I am lucky to be part of a web-series. I feel in this platform there is no axe on creativity. You can show the real emotions. Being an actor on TV with so much of baggage, people cast me as a mother and then you get lost. I have been keeping myself away from playing such characters from a very long time. People see me less on TV. In my previous show Sethji, I played a mother but I was in control of everything,” says the actress.

Talking about her digital debut, she shares, “Firstly, when you have played such vital roles, you need to portray a very important role in any project that you are doing. I am playing the character of a lady who is getting divorced in the series. This web-series has an ensemble cast but I have a very important role. Secondly the story is very real and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I feel there is no reservation on web platform and here age also doesn’t matter. There are different age groups in our web-series. I feel it is a fair platform for actors who have done different roles and have moved ahead.”

Ask her about her personal take on extra-marital affairs, she avers, “There are times when marriages don’t work and people do wander. It’s the fate of marriage, some are successful and some not. Ours is a story of an unsuccessful marriage. My heart goes out to people who are dealing with such situations. I feel a person should not really hold oneself so responsible for something wrong in their marriage. They should let it go. Our society needs to understand why divorces happen and it’s not an end of the road for a woman or man. This is been told very beautifully through this series.”

On an end note, the actress is happy to be working with a happy cast which includes Ronit Roy, Mona Singh, “It has been lovely. I have known them socially before, but I am working for the first time with them. They are great actors. I feel an ensemble cast really helps you to do more good work. You learn so much on the job as well. It doesn’t happen on TV as they cast one known face and the rest is all unknown,” she signs off.

Good luck, Gurdeep!
