Talented actor Ali Merchant is presently winning hearts as the lovable lover boy cum Army officer in Dreamzz Images Stuido’s newest web-series titled ‘I Love Us’ produced by Falguni Shah and directed by Deepak Pandey. The web-series is streaming on the You Tube channel, Footlooze.
Ali might have played lot of lover boy roles on TV before, but this one for him is very different!! The narrative which strongly talks about a lesbian love story and upholds the sensitiveness that prevails in a same s*x relationship has been welcomed well by masses..
Says Ali, “When I was told to be part of the lesbian love story initially, I was very apprehensive. But when I heard the whole story and understood the concept, it looked rather interesting to me. The story shows respect for a particular genre of people of similar sex, and this is the beauty of the web-series. We live in a democratic India, so we need to respect such people.”
Ali who essays a charming young officer in the series falls for one of the girls who is into a lesbian relationship. The web-series has actors Ashmita Jaggi and Harsha Chopra in the lead roles of girls in a relationship.
“My character falls for one of the girls (Neha), and that is when she is also inclined towards me. She too gets a sense of attraction towards me. Whatever happens after that, and the climax is to be watched out for. Also, my character carries a past in which he has lost someone in life,” adds Ali.
I Love Us in addition to being a take on lesbian relationship also has a suspense element in the story. “The series will give viewers all the mixed emotions. You will see heart break, jealousy, insecurity, possessiveness, obsession, fear of being exploited etc. We have shot at very good locations in Palghar,” explains the actor.
One of the major attractions of the web-series is the song rendition of popular singer Shaan.
Ali Merchant who has been keeping away from TV for sometime now is a popular DJ, and his company Feather Entertainment has been taking Indian music worldwide with its powerful remixes. “Yes, I have been missing TV. I will come back if I get something very challenging. As of now, music keeps me occupied. Our remixes on ‘Tamma Tamma Loge’ and ‘Gulabo’ have really done well. We have more of the remixes coming. This is a far big industry and I want to take Indian music to the international level,” he states.
On his thought on the sensitive subject of lesbian relationship, Ali opines, “I feel more pressure is when two people of the same s*x are together. The society pressures are tough to handle, and if one person in the relationship takes a back seat, the other one is left alone for all the life. Nobody has spoken about such a topic at so much depth and positivity as this web-series. Yes, the concept is bold and we have some stunning romantic scenes. The digital platform bears no censorship and the bold scenes are indeed stimulating. At the end of the day, I feel that this web-series will change many a point of views of people who do not agree in similar s*x relationships.”
Ali who has done TV shows Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Saat Phere, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Bandini, Do Hanson Ka Jodaa, Looteri Dulhaan to name a few says that he’s surely open to good TV projects.
