Actress Puja Banerjee who has featured in TV shows Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna, Sarvggun Sampanna, Razia Sultan, Qubool Hai etc, is now playing the titular role of Goddess Mahalakshmi in Hari Om app’s upcoming show titled Jai Maha Lakshmi, which will launch during Diwali.
Puja who has earlier been part of mythological shows like Devon Ke Dev Mahadev (Goddess Parvati), Jag Janani Maa Vaishnodevi (Goddess Vaishnodevi) etc, is happy to get back to playing a divine character again. She says, “I always feel I am lucky enough to be chosen for such characters. I have played many dream roles when it comes to playing Goddesses and bagging this opportunity feels great.”
Ask her about the challenges involved in playing these Godly characters, and she says, “Since we are not playing a human character, there is no reference available to playing Godly characters. We have to understand the nuances of the character with what we know or read about the particular God.”
On balancing work and responsibilities as a mother, Puja states, “Even when we say that we are balancing it well, we know that heart of heart, that it is tough to strike the perfect balance. You always tend to feel guilty as a mother when you leave behind the kid at home. However, my goal is to work in such a way that my kid is proud of my work as a performer.”
Talking about the Hari Om app and its reach with only the mythological content, Puja states, “This is a very good initiative of Hari Om. People are switching from TV to OTT because of its easier accessibility. Today’s generation and the younger lot coming need to understand Hindu mythology and learn from its values. Hari Om gives a great platform on the OTT front for youngsters to access it according to their convenience and keep abreast with Hindu mythology.”
Ask her about her dream role and she says, “I have always wanted to play a character similar to Sridevi’s in Sadma. As for my dream roles, I have already got opportunities to play many Goddesses.”
Lastly, Puja states “It is an overwhelming feeling to play Goddess Lakshmi here in Jai Mahalakshmi. Everybody looks at you with that perspective and respects you.”
