An 18-year-old Odisha girl is on the verge of becoming India’s first-ever K-pop artist. After defeating thousands of contestants in a global audition, Shreya Lenka was named one of the two finalists. She must now defeat another contestant, Gabriela Dalcin of Brazil, in order to join the Blackswan band as the fifth member.
According to Lenka, finding the right vocal coach was difficult. Her grandma eventually stepped in and assisted her in locating one. Her grandma took Lenka to a Hindustani classical music tutor after observing her enthusiasm for singing. The 18-year-old used to attend two weekly singing lessons. In an interview with Odisha Bytes, the Rourkela girl revealed that she taught herself western songs by watching web videos. The multi-talented young lady is the only Indian trainee to be chosen for the international audition. Lenka, like her counterpart Dalcin, does K-pop dance covers. Gabriela Dalcin, who is 18 years old, is a member of Queens of Revolution, a dance cover girl group. Dalcin will be the second Brazilian girl to debut in a K-pop group if she is picked as the fifth member, according to the entertainment website Meaww. Both the females are now in the running for the coveted position, according to Blackswan’s label, DR Music.
DR Music announced in May 2021 that global auditions will be held to fill a vacancy left by Hyemi’s departure.
According to reports, both girls will now travel to South Korea for a month of training. At the end of this session, one of the two singers will be picked to join Blackswan.
In the year 2020, the South Korean girl group made its debut. Judy, Fatou, Leia, and Youngheun are the current members of the group.
