The beautiful and talented Mahima Makwana, last seen in Star Plus show, Mariam Khan – Reporting Live, is all set for her digital debut, courtesy web series, Flesh. This Eros Now project will start streaming sometime later this year.
“Web series is a different ball game in terms of shooting, writing and acting compared to TV. It was a learning curve for me. Also, since I was the last one to come on board, I did not get much time to mix with the team or get a pre-hang of things.”
This Siddharth Anand co-production boasts of a stellar cast comprising Swara Bhasker, Akshay Oberoi, Vidya Malvade, Kavin Dave and Yudhishtir Urs, besides Mahima.
Did you feel any kind of discrimination on set as there is still a chasm between film and TV stars? “No, I was not told what to do. While director Danish Aslam (Break ke Baad fame) sir gave me latitude, he would step in when needed.”
“Yes, there are some people who still believe that TV acting is a tad lower than films/web, but I gave it my best. Each medium has its own dynamics. Had I come from stage, then I too would have initially found it tough to get used to the camera.” “However, I did not spend too much time with my above co-stars, for, given the edgy (global human trafficking) challenging concept, I was more into myself. I spent a lot of time with Danish sir, trying to understand what was required of me. The character kinda drained me out. It took me a lot of time trying to come out of her shell, post shoot.”
Is your character in Flesh bold? “I am not allowed to disclose more of my storyboard than what I have already done above.”
Will you be ready for nudity down the road as web seems to require? “I will need to speak to my director about what it entails, but it goes without saying that I will not do anything just to rake in eyeballs. I am not yet ready for that zone, but if some meaty role comes, I just might go for it.”
Looking ahead, Mahima, who began as a child artist with Balika Vadhu, is looking for juicy challenging characters across all mediums, be it TV, films or web. “Something big just might give.”
