Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik welcomed their daughter Khai in September 2020, and while the couple has shared photos of her on social media, they have never shown her face. This is a deliberate effort on the part of the new parents, who have attempted to provide their daughter with solitude despite their celebrity lifestyle. Now, Gigi is pleading with the paparazzi and fans to do the same, publishing a lengthy open letter on her Instagram Stories regarding Khai’s face, urging that people respect her parents’ wishes and blur it when they’re shot in New York.

Gigi sincerely wrote that they have to accept that as their child grows older, they won’t be able to protect her from everything the way they wanted and could when she was little. Gigi’s daughter enjoys traveling throughout the world and, while she does a lot of it on the farm, she also gets to visit new areas, which is a true blessing, wrote Gigi. Khai wanted to look around in her stroller on a recent trip to New York, according to Gigi and didn’t like being covered up. She had no idea why she’s being protected in the city or what Gigi is trying to protect her from.

Gigi extended her post by requesting that photographers and fans blur Khai’s face when photographing the family out and about. “You know, we’ve never put our daughter’s face on social media on purpose,” said Gigi. “We hope that when she reaches adulthood, she will be able to choose how she wants to share herself with the world and that she will be able to have a normal childhood without worrying about a public image she hasn’t chosen,” Gigi wrote. “It would mean the world to us if you could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE obscure her face out of the photographs if and when she is caught on camera, while we take our daughter to see and discover NYC and the globe,” pleaded Gigi in her post.
