I will never demean a medium that has made me who I am: Anuj Sachdeva

Good-looking TV actor, Anuj Sachdeva, who has previously done small-screen shows like Sabki Laadli Bebo, Phir Subah Hogi, might have finally found his big ticket calling. He is all excited about his upcoming Amazon Prime web series, Breathe, which will go live on Republic Day. “We had shot for this trilingual last year. The cast is pretty impressive.Besides me, we have Sapna Pabbi, Amit Saadh, and yes, for the first time on the web, we have R. Madhavan.”

“The teaser has just come out.We have high hopes, given the fact that the product has really shaped up well, and the marketing team also seems up beat about the early response.”

Refusing to give out more details about this murder thriller, Anuj quips, “All I can say is that you will see Maddy sir, who till now has done only romantic, good-man roles, in a never-before, shocking avatar. Amit Saadh also has a strong role.”

Interestingly, when Amazon had launched its first original series, Inside Edge, last year, they had uploaded all the episodes in one go. But this time, according to Anuj, it will have a weekly telecast.“The makers are confident in their product.”

When asked about his take on web series,as opposed to TV, he says,“While there are too many restrictions on TV, some digital people also take advantage of this new-found freedom to fill their shows with drugs, s*x and violence. All this is fine if needed by the character,” says Anuj.

Anuj had earlier co-produced a Facebook chat show, Access With Anuj, which inspired people, without sounding preachy. “The first season was later picked up by other platforms like Sony Liv and Web Talkies, as well.  This should inspire other digital makers to come up with innovative original content which can earn you good money, as you retain the IP. We plan to make Season 2 of Access With Anuj.”

“Digital revolution is big today. Most people are glued on to their phones. There are many good shows online. Having said that, TV will continue to have it own audience. I will never demean a medium that has made me who I am. The battle is for the youth audience, which is getting divided.”

Coming to TV, Anuj, who till now has mostly done romantic characters, would like to explore cop roles, and more broodish-type characters. “I got a lot of appreciation for my slightly negative avatar in Swaragini, and would like to take it forward.”
