Show Name: Star Vs Food (Episode 1)
Featuring: Kareena Kapoor Khan & Chef Sarita Pereira (Owner, The LoveFools Restaurant)
Ratings: 2 stars
Given the busy schedules of celebrities, it is tough for them to be adept in kitchen activities. But it is always fun to see them cook up a storm in a kitchen, what we call a perfect marriage of gourmet with glamour. And Discovery+ and its new show ‘Star Vs Food’ is all about high-profile cooking.
The first episode features Bollywood’s dazzling diva Bebo aka Kareena Kapoor making some ‘yummylicious’ pizza in the kitchen. To be really honest, the concept is not novel, however, Kareena lends her own chutzpah to the show.
Although Bebo claims in the show that she isn’t much of an expert in the art of cooking, she seemed pretty brisk in her selection of ingredients for what she’s about to make and that’s the first sign of a good and creative cook, ain’t it? In fact, to put it in a line, she does a fabulous job under the guidance of Chef Sarita.
Since this was her first appearance on any public platform after the birth of her second child, it made for an interesting watch with the charming lady sharing interesting anecdotes from her personal family life. Not just that, Bebo seemed pretty candid about acknowledging that pizza and pastas are her go-to food at any point of the day. The concluding segment was quite interesting where Kareena had some of her friends who accompanied her to enjoy the delicacy she prepared.
So what exactly is the talking point or buzz factor about this show? Well, to be honest, there are hardly any apart from the celebrity factor. The format is done to death and rings a monotonous deja vu appeal. And if at all the purpose of the show is to put out unheard facts and interesting real-life tales about the celebrities, then the audience might as well watch them on TV interviews, why bother binge-watch a show?
To cut things short, the show is all about glitz and glamour but somehow the ‘blend’ of celebs and kitchen isn’t in perfect sync. Full marks to the makers for the efforts in bringing out something interesting and bringing some popular celebrities to do this act. However, some of the ‘ingredients’ needed to make this show a hit seem to be ‘missing’ in this Discovery+ kitchen.
Watch if you are a foodie by heart. If you are someone who’s hunting for good new content, you may skip this as there are plenty of other good stuff to watch on the internet these days.
