Amazon Prime’s ‘SECRECY’ on Afsos delay

Amazon Prime, the OTT platform’s show Afsos has hit a hiatus button post missing its streaming date: we dig deep in the issue

Amazon Prime’s ‘SECRECY’ on Afsos delay

Strange is the word, rather queer, confusing and mysterious to be precise.

Here’s the backstory.

Amazon Prime Video web original series Afsos, which was supposed to stream on the platform from 17th January 2020, missed the date, much to everyone’s perplexity.

The series had generated quite a buzz among digital audiences, due to its intriguing premise and an interesting ensemble cast helmed by Only Much Louder (OML).

The suspense thriller is a dark comedy about a suicidal man, a maverick monk and a deadly assassin amidst the realm of immortality. The eight-episode series is co-created by Dibya Chatterjee and renowned comedian Anirban Dasgupta

Apart from the leads, Gulshan Devaiah and Anjali Patil, the series was to feature cameos by a host of popular performers – Dhruv Sehgal, Jamie Alter, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Danish Sait, besides writer of the show, Anirban Dasgupta himself.

But since it’s skipped the launch date, there is no clarity on the fate of the show. No new launch date for Afsos has been announced yet.

And when we decided to probe, we got no precise confirmed official reason from either OML or Prime on the delayed stream.

However, a source said, “The reason is technical, which can be anything. They (Prime) are trying to fix it and hopefully, it will soon find a release date.”

Though OML chose not to comment on the issue, we wrote to Prime spokespersons and they wrote back stating, “Thanks for reaching out to us pertaining to the launch of Afsos. Apologies for the delayed response. Please be informed that the show is unavailable on Amazon Prime Video due to unforeseen circumstances. We regret the inconvenience caused and shall come back to you when it becomes available.”

Well, the answer is vague and rather inconclusive. What could be the unforeseen circumstances? It is a case of content gone wrong or truly a technical mess up? Whatever be it, end of the day, it’s a loss for the consumers.

Here’s another scoop. In the recently released promo by Amazon Prime of its upcoming originals for 2020 calendar, Afsos does not feature.

Well, that tells a lot about it.

We hope to see Afsos stream soon.
