Producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, find themselves embroiled in a legal controversy after a case has been filed against them under the POCSO Act. The case relates to season 6 of the ALT Balaji web series Gandii Baat, which allegedly featured inappropriate scenes involving minor girls.

According to the Mumbai Police, the case has been registered against Balaji Telefilms Limited, along with Ekta and Shobha Kapoor, at the MHB police station in Mumbai. The charges include sections 295-A of the IPC, the IT Act, and sections 13 and 15 of the POCSO Act. The complaint specifically points to an episode that aired between February and April 2021 on the OTT platform, claiming that it depicted obscene scenes involving minor girls. The episode in question, however, is no longer available on ALT Balaji’s streaming service.

Meanwhile, despite these legal troubles, Ekta Kapoor remains active in the film industry with several recent releases. On April 19, 2023, she released Love, Sex aur Dhokha 2, a drama film directed by Dibakar Banerjee, commonly referred to as LSD 2. This was followed by the release of The Buckingham Murders, a crime thriller featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan, which Ekta produced and presented earlier in September 2023. Additionally, just two weeks ago, Ekta released the comedy film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri.

Despite the controversy surrounding the web series, Ekta continues to make headlines with her ongoing work in the entertainment industry.
