Hansal Mehta’s investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan, is now streaming on Netflix India from November 8. The film premiered on the platform a couple of months after its theatrical release. Initially, the movie was made available in two formats: a Hinglish version with a mix of 80% English and 20% Hindi dialogues, and a fully dubbed Hindi version. However, Netflix India currently offers only the dubbed Hindi version.
Several viewers on X (formerly Twitter) quickly noticed the absence of the Hinglish version. One user, @Sethumadhavan, expressed disappointment, posting: “Hi @mehtahansal why isn’t @NetflixIndia having the Hinglish version of #TheBuckinghamMurders? Watching all the Brits speak in Hindi makes it sound so artificial….. sigh!” This sentiment was echoed by others who felt that the dubbed version affected the film’s authenticity, especially with British characters speaking in Hindi.
Hansal Mehta responded to the concerns, acknowledging the issue. He shared a screenshot of the Netflix interface indicating that the original language version would be added soon. Mehta explained that a technical glitch on Netflix India’s end had delayed the availability of the Hinglish version, adding that he hoped it would be resolved soon.
The film follows Sergeant Jasmeet “Jass” Bhamra, portrayed by Kareena Kapoor, as she copes with the grief of losing her son, Ekam (played by Mairaaj Kakkar). Her character is tasked with investigating the disappearance of another young boy named Ishpreet, who is around the same age as her late son. The cast includes Ash Tandon, chef-turned-actor Ranveer Brar, and Keith Allen.
The Buckingham Murders also marks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s debut as a producer, with Hansal Mehta and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures co-producing the project.
