Excerpts:
You have had a long journey in the creative field in Entertainment beat. How will you explain the various phases in your career?
Work doesn’t seem like work if you cherish what you do! Likewise, in my 17+ years of experience in our Entertainment Industry, I have never had a dull moment in my career. From show launches to movie premieres, to web series launches, every project has been an engrossing and enjoyable one even with the unique challenges that each one throws at us.
How different is work on TV when compared to the medium of the web for a creative person like you?
Web, as a medium, gives us a lot more freedom to express ourselves creatively. Working on web shows is like working on feature films. We get a lot of time to prepare creatively. We know our beginning and endpoints, so we are better organized. However, nothing can take away the charm of working for TV shows either. Weekly TRP’s of TV shows are great motivating factors for creatives like me!
Do you think web will out beat TV one day?
In my opinion, nothing can ever beat our TV viewership. Even though web content has created a niche for itself, our Indian TV audience is deep-rooted and they prefer unique content which is catered specifically through our GEC’s. Right now, challenging TV content still seems like a long shot!
How has your web experience been so far?
My web experience so far has been good and creatively more stimulating. I have had the pleasure to work with ALTBalaji on numerous web projects and each one holds a special place in my heart.
How did the lockdown phase treat you?
Needless to say, like most of us, the lockdown period has been the worse phase of my life too. I suffered a huge personal loss in this phase when I lost my father in the month of June 2020, due to cardiac arrest. I haven’t still been able to come to terms with it and I guess this void shall remain forever.
What is your forte when it comes to your creative instincts?
Creativity is very subjective and there is no right or wrong in it. I guess I am able to bring about my unique point of view in my projects and I am able to present my shows and characters in a very relatable manner. Presentation and packaging of shows are of key importance to me.
What are you presently working on?
Currently, I am working on 2 web projects as a Creative Producer with Raj Kaushal, who happens to be my first boss too! Incidentally, I am also working as a Co-Producer on our next project with him.
What has the industry taught you overall?
Many lessons! Stay humble, work hard and remain sincere to your work and to your people. There is no consistency ever in our life, so we should be well prepared and better equipped to deal with all our highs and lows. As they say – tough times don’t last but tough people do!
