Industry doyen Tarun Katial moved on from his responsibilities at the prestigious IAMAI, and as a parting gesture he penned a message which is replete with inspiration, nostalgia and warmth. Excerpts below:

Respected Members,

Season’s Greetings and wish you all the very best for the coming year!

2020 has been a tumultuous year for most businesses and economies the world over, and as we look forward to 2021, I hope that you and everyone at home is keeping well and safe.

As I to step down as the Chairperson of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Digital Entertainment Committee this mail was to express my gratitude to all the members and spl to the IAMAI team Bhanupreet and Subho. The tenure allowed me to work with many amazingly supportive industry colleagues like Gourav Rakshit, Gaurav Gandhi, Ambika Khurana, Karan Bedi, Kshipra and Shefali. None of what we got done would have been possible without their active involvement and support.

Over the years, the IAMAI has been revered as an important voice in the online and mobile sector, helping shape policy, championing its growth and promoting intellectual capital. Serving at the helm of such an illustrious institution has, undoubtedly, been an extremely enriching experience.

Through this year, we witnessed the industry come together as a strong force to reckon with, providing fresh content, stories and entertainment that made the pandemic-induced lockdown somewhat easier to deal with, and paving the way for advanced, better and unique ways to keep Indian consumers engaged and entertained. I was thrilled to see the industry fast-tracking adoption of technology and harnessing the power of personalisation, thus ushering in an era of rapid innovation and customer satisfaction.

Furthermore, I am immensely proud of us leading a monumental project working with industry peers, legal teams and policy makers to commission and adopt ‘Universal Self-Regulation’ code for the video on demand players, making it a watershed moment in the history of IAMAI. The code has been a real milestone and achievement, been adopted with the widest acceptance and commitment. I am also grateful to all the other stakeholders and the regulators, with whom I have had the occasion to interact, in the best interests of the sector. The job I know is still WIP and I’m sure all you truly passionate peers will take it to its logical conclusion.

While the decision to step down has not been an easy one for me, I want to wish everyone at IAMAI the very best for the very bright future that awaits us. I will always be a most fervent supporter of this association’s contribution, and I look forward to seeing the sector flourish under its new leadership.

Thank you Bhanu again for such a balanced partner!

Stay safe!

Best regards,

Tarun Katial
