Mirzapur has been a very immersive 9 episode crime drama which has been set in the heartland of India. It revolves around drugs, guns and the politics of power. This was the third fiction Indian original Amazon series. And the series gained huge popularity among its audiences for the impeccable acting style of Pankaj Tripathi.
As admitted by Pankaj Tripathi who played this intense role in the series, he likes to do drama but not the melodrama. The role of the gangster is always approachable to him as it can be connected to the real-life of masses.
The national award-winning actor says although his character has been ruthless in the series there is an element of humor involved in this which drove him to take it up.
As Pankaj has already been into roles of Mafia Don earlier in the movies like Gurgaon and (Gangs of) Wasseypur, his character was nothing new for him.
To make this character appear fresh and interesting, he just added some subtlety and humor so that it appears more unexpected, unpredictable and afresh.
He has played an intense character in the series, which revolves around a game of succession power, ambition, and greed in the city of Uttar Pradesh.
According to him, has been able to perform best in this role because he performs impulsively without much preparation for this character. Every time he chooses a role he tries to insert some new feel and theme into it so that neither he nor the audience gets bored.
To get into the skin of the character, Pankaj admits that he keeps a prop of every character he plays on the screen so that the character keeps on haunting him throughout the entire shoot. For Kaleen Bhaiya, he kept his chappals and a black vest during the entire shooting schedule.
