Dipankana Das, the 21-year-old dynamo from Kolkata, is making her grand acting debut in Campus Beats Season 4, and her journey to landing the role of Pakhi is as inspiring as the character she portrays. Known for her standout performances in Ek Rosy Ki Dastan – Bijli and Talab in 2023, Dipankana has already carved a niche in the entertainment world. But stepping into the shoes of Pakhi—a spirited, street-smart dancer—meant stepping far outside her comfort zone.
Dipankana candidly shares, “I said yes to the show solely because Pakhi’s character is the complete opposite of who I am. It was a challenge I couldn’t resist as an actor.” The selection process wasn’t a walk in the park either. After three to four rigorous audition rounds, she finally got the call. “What set me apart was trusting myself fully. I believed I could do it, and that confidence carried me through,” she says.
But the hard work didn’t stop at the auditions. Pakhi’s role demanded a streetwise lingo and accent, vastly different from Dipankana’s own. “The lingo was quite challenging. I had to undergo 1.5 months of workshops and constant practice to get it just right,” she reveals.
A trained Kathak and Bharatnatyam dancer, Dipankana also had to tackle an entirely new dance style for the show—Hip-Hop. “It was tough, but Shantanu Maheshwari, who plays Ishaan, made it easier for me. He encouraged me during rehearsals, and our shared Kolkata roots helped us bond instantly. That connection made the entire experience so much more comfortable.”
Reflecting on the group dynamics of the show, Dipankana adds, “As this is a college-life web series, the group scenes felt like reliving our college lives all over again! It was so much fun and brought back memories of those carefree days.”
Campus Beats, streaming on Amazon Mini TV from November 20, combines music, dance, and drama to create a vibrant depiction of campus life. With Dipankana’s captivating energy, alongside stars like Shantanu Maheshwari, Shruti Sinha, and Manasvi Vashisht, the series promises a thrilling mix of high-energy performances and heartfelt storytelling.
