The severe financial trouble has left Sri Lanka battling to pay for imports of food, medication and fuel and welcomed a large number of dissidents onto the roads. On Saturday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa told the speaker of parliament he would step down the following week.
What’s more, earlier since May there’s been countrywide protests led on the roads of the country, and the world could witness a deep clash between the pro and anti-government protestors. With this, the president has reportedly decided to resign and has informed the Parliamentary speaker that he has ought to step down on July 13th. However, the protest has led to casualties too with 9 deaths and 300 injured.
