Two good Samaritans risked a freezing Australian lake to assist a trapped kangaroo. The touching story of the marsupial’s rescue has gone viral online, with people praising the two men for their bravery.

Two humans were seen gently approaching the terrified animal standing in the frigid waters of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra on Tuesday morning in a video that went viral. The couple, who have been dubbed “heroes,” were shown assuring the that they are there to help and not to hurt it.

As they approached, the Kangaroo was shivering and extremely weary, and it was seen nervously flinging its arms in the air. The men, however, were desperate to save the kangaroo and successfully hauled it out of the freezing water.

Another passerby assisted them in lifting the kangaroo onto the pavement as they both waded through the freezing water with the kangaroo in their arms. The third man attempted to soothe the animal by softly massaging its body and holding its hands.

The deed was recorded on camera by a bystander, David Boyd, who shared the video on a Canberra Facebook group page. Boyd posted online, “Well done to these two gentlemen true champions – brutally freezing – good news the kangaroo came good.”

The animal was seen nuzzling its head and holding the hands of all three rescuers after being hauled out of the water as if to convey appreciation. In the footage, someone can be heard off-camera stating, “Aww, he’s thanking ya.” Other people on the street were also admiring the humane move.

Many people praised the men for jumping into the water to assist the animal despite the bitter cold.
