After a video of teachers dancing to film songs in an empty classroom went viral, five teachers from a government primary school in the Agra district were punished for “unethical behavior.” Assistant instructors Rashmi Sisodia, Jivika Kumari, Anjali Yadav, Suman Kumari, and Sudha Rani may be seen dancing to the popular song “Mainu lehenga lede mehnga” in the video.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the video was shot on March 21 of this year. However, the video was only discovered online on Thursday, prompting the Agra Basic Education Department to launch an investigation.

According to HT report, Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Brajraj Singh in his suspension order stated, “The songs to which the teachers were seen dancing were not educative. By dancing in class, the teachers violated the Teachers’ Service Rules and tarnished the image of the education department, besides causing anger among villagers.”

On Saturday, the teachers in the Basic Education Department were suspended.

“All five assistant teachers and the headteacher of the Sadhan primary school in Achhnera block were asked to submit clarifications. Four instructors responded, but one did not,” Brajraj Singh, the in-charge of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari told PTI. According to him, all five teachers were suspended when their clarifications were determined to be inadequate.
