A boy stole the spotlight after approaching the stage at Pope Francis’ Vatican audience on Wednesday, earning a seat at his side and a white papal headgear as a reward for his endurance.
The youngster, who Francis later described as having a medical “limitation,” was dressed in a mask and a tracksuit and appeared to be around ten years old.
At the commencement of the audience in the huge Paul VI auditorium, he approached the pope with stumbling steps. Security authorities were unconcerned and did not attempt to stop him.
He jumped up and down in front of the pope as he shook his hand. Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, the head of protocol, got up and gave the youngster his seat to the pope’s right when it became evident that he wanted to stay for a while.

The kid, who sat next to the pope and applauded heartily, wandered freely on and off the stage, returning to the centre many times as the audience listened to the pope read his address.
The kid pointed at the pope’s white skullcap, known as a zucchetto, multiple times. Officials picked up on the idea and gave him a similar headgear, which drew applause and laughs from the crowd of thousands.
“I thank this boy for the lesson he has given all of us. May the Lord help him in his limitations, as he grows, because what he did came from the heart,” the pope stated.
