A video of an alligator locking its jaws shut around a small drone in Florida has gone viral on social media. The event has triggered an online debate about the usage of drones to record wild animals.

In the footage, an alligator named “George” can be seen destroying a drone as it hovers overhead, with surprised witnesses panicking as the animal proceeds to consume it.

The gadget, on the other hand, exploded shortly later, shrouding the alligator in smoke. In the footage, a woman can be heard saying, “Oh my God, he’s eating it.” “No, George. Don’t eat that!” says the narrator. It’s uncertain if the alligator’s name is George or not.

The caption read, “We were trying to get a close up of the gator with its mouth open and thought the obstacle avoidance would make the drone fly away. [It] was only our second time using the spark.”

The video, which was first shared on TikTok by user @devhlanger, quickly became viral on other platforms. A person named Chris Anderson posted the video to Twitter this morning.

Many people have been angered by the footage, and have asked for stricter drone regulations, particularly in areas where animals are present.
