A monkey took a wrapped towel containing Rs 1 lakh cash from an autorickshaw caught in traffic congestion in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur in an unusual event. According to a Hindustan Times article, the event occurred in broad daylight on Sunday in the Katav Ghat region, when the man holding the cash was riding in an autorickshaw with two passengers.
The monkey seized the towel with the money in one of the men’s hands and climbed up a tree as the three were stuck in traffic. After grabbing the money, the monkey began shaking the towel, causing the cash notes to rain down all over the place. The owner of the money was able to recover Rs 56,000, but the remaining funds were lost. The cops were unable to determine who took the rest of the money because the location lacked CCTV cameras.
“When the three came out of the vehicle to peer ahead and find out what was causing the traffic jam, a monkey took away a towel in which ₹1 lakh cash was wrapped. It shook the towel after climbing up a tree, spreading currency notes all around. The owner managed to collect ₹56,000, while the rest got lost,” explained Majholi police station in-charge Sachin Singh, as quoted by PTI.
Meanwhile, no theft case was filed because no proof was discovered against anyone. According to the police, locals in the neighborhood frequently feed the monkeys, which is why the animals would sometimes try to enter automobiles in the hopes of finding food.
