An 84-year-old former pilot who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease has compiled a bucket list of things she wants to do before she dies. Myrta Gage, an ex-pilot, determined that the one thing she absolutely enjoyed was flying a plane because she was a pilot in her youth.
Her son Earl fulfilled Gage’s wish to fly a plane after learning about her bucket list. The footage of Gage flying a plane for the final time is already circulating on social media. Earl revealed in a recent interview with Fox News that his mother was having difficulty with daily duties, so the family decided to help her create a bucket list.
Many things were on the list, but flying an aeroplane was one that caught the family’s eye. Earl quickly contacted Cody Mattiello, a pilot who agreed to fly the mother-son team over Mount Kearsarge and Lake Winnipesaukee. According to the report, Mattiello subsequently gave over control of the plane to Gage, saying he was “happy to help” a fellow pilot.
“I was asked a few days ago to help fulfill this amazing lady’s final wishes (sic) to fly a plane again. She was a pilot in her youth and having Parkinson’s disease and being in her 90’s insurance requirements would not allow her to use a flight school,” Mattiello’s Facebook page reads. Earl contacted him, and they were glad to accept the work, he continued in his message.
Mattiello also released a number of videos and photos of the 84-year-old former pilot that have gone viral on social media.
For the uninitiated, Parkinson’s disease is a neurological ailment that causes trouble walking, coordination, and body balance. There hasn’t been a cure for it yet.
