A viral video of a Royal Bengal tiger jumping from a boat during a rescue effort has social media users thinking of Richard Parker from “Life of Pi.”

Parween Kalwaan, an Indian Forest Officer (IFS), recently released an unusual video on his Twitter account that shows a Royal Bengal tiger being rescued. The tiger, which is being transported into a boat to be released into the Sundarbans, leaps into the sea and swims to its native habitat.

Kalwaan wrote in response to the video, “The Tiger-sized leap, on the other hand. An old film of a tiger being rescued and released from the Sundarbans.”

The video became viral just a few hours after it was shared, garnering over one lakh views and 5,000 likes.

A segment of viewers who were intrigued by the video said it reminded them of Richard Parker, the Bengal tiger who joins Pi Patel (Suraj Sharma) on his 227-day oceanic adventure.

“Earlier in Life of Pie, we saw a pretty talented tiger with swimming talents,” a social media user commented.

“It appears that the last tiger scene in Life of Pi was inspired by this video,” said another. “Tiger did not return the stare. He stepped inside his universe.”

“Reminds me of Life of Pi!” commented a third Twitter user. “Richard Parker never returned the stare:)”

“Life Of Pi,” directed by Ang Lee, is a critically acclaimed and financially successful adventure drama from 2012. At the 85th Academy Awards, the film received eleven nominations and won four, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects.
