Bear sightings are not uncommon in California, but their antics frequently make the news. Two bear cubs managed to open the door of a parked automobile and get stuck inside in a recent occurrence, only to escape the scene when local police arrived.
Jenny Kay of Sierra Madre awoke to the sound of her beloved dog barking wildly, only to discover her parked vehicle had been vandalized. She saw her car’s upholstery and seats were messed up as she stepped out to inspect it.
However, CCTV captured by neighbors proved that the perpetrators were two mischievous cubs, not people. The cubs were seen climbing out of the car when police arrived, according to a video broadcast by KABC-TV.
The two bear cubs managed to get inside the woman’s car despite her closing the sunroof and locking the doors, according to NBC Los Angeles. The cubs turned on the danger lights and even honked the automobile horn while stuck inside, probably terrified of being confined in the vehicle. She’s still baffled as to what drew the bears to her car.
“There wasn’t any food that I’m aware of. Maybe like a little box of Boston Baked Beans candy. Sometimes I survive off of that. That’s it,” Kay told CBS Los Angeles. When police arrived, they discovered the bears inside and used a baton to break down the door, allowing them to rejoin their mother.
