You probably remember playing these brain-boosting board games as a kid. But just because they were around before you didn’t mean they couldn’t teach your tech-savvy youngsters a thing or two! They’re also the ideal reason to put down the screens and spend quality time with your family while also strengthening your brain. So, without further ado, here are some of our favourite mind-expanding board games.
Snake & Ladders
This game is a terrific introduction to the world of board games for young children because it is quick, easy, and a lot of fun. Snakes & Ladders will teach your child the fundamentals of board games, such as taking turns, dice, counting, patience, and rewarding behaviour.
Connect Four
Although Connect Four isn’t technically a board game, it is a terrific strategy game that encourages students to think ahead and plan. What effect will their next move have on the game? To win, how many counters do they need? Can they win with a different plan next time?
Battleship
In this exciting, naval-themed game, master the waters and wipe out your opponents’ fleet. Battleships teach your youngster about grid systems while also requiring careful thought, logic, and deduction to locate and sink your opponent’s fleet before they sink yours!
Monopoly
This family classic is available in several unique additions and is more of a family activity (it can last several hours) than a board game. Monopoly instils virtues in your children such as saving, budgeting, paying bills, and dealing with the unexpected (Go To Jail, Chance cards etc). Intensely addictive and challenging at the same time!
Sorry!
In as few moves as possible, get all of your pieces from the beginning to the end (home). What’s the worst that might happen? Sorry! Landing on the same tile as an opponent sends their piece back to the Start, which is an excellent way to teach sportsmanship. Sorry! (I’m not sorry.)
