A script that actors have been using to audition for the character of Croft was leaked to Colin Moriarty, also known as no taxation on Twitter, according to his report. He mentions it on his Sacred Symbols podcast and cites a number of MelonieMac and SmashLara tweets to support the claim that Crystal Dynamics is looking for a “genuine British VA.” The studio also requests that the voice actor be around thirty years old, 5’6″, and athletic; thus, it appears that the developer is searching for someone who can perform motion capture work as well.
According to reports, Project Jawbreaker would maintain the realism that the current Tomb Raider series has known for a while, including “fantasy aspects.” In the story, despite being a strong, independent adventurer, Croft “struggles with loneliness” and chooses to team up with other raiders who look up to her. Due to media and tabloids worldwide covering Lara’s adventures, she has motivated others to follow in her footsteps matter how risky it is. The fact that there is “an unknown cataclysm she cannot face alone” suggests that she may be collaborating with others for more practical reasons.
Overall, Croft’s “family difficulties” from earlier games will be dropped from the narrative. This is in keeping with what lead writer Rhianna Pratchett, who wanted Lara to have fewer “father issues,” intended to see in the 2013 Tomb Raider remake. Early in April, Crystal Dynamics stated that Unreal Engine 5 would be used to create the upcoming Tomb Raider game.
