Bollywood actors are multitalented. Most of them have shined in their own way, but some have not limited themselves only to entertaining audiences on screen. At a time when cinema is constantly evolving and movie-starts frequently push the envelope of artistry, we find actors also penning books. Recently, Amrita Rao and her husband RJ Anmol became authors. The couple took to their respective social media handles and announced their first book – Couple of Things, as co-authors. With this today, we bring you the list of celebrities who tried their luck at writing and turned authors.

In February 2021, Priyanka Chopra launched her memoir ‘Unfinished’, which became a bestseller both in India and the USA.

Naseeruddin Shah, the talented thespian of Bollywood turned a writer at the age of 64. In 2014, he wrote A Memoir: And Then One Day in which he chronicles his life journey where the actor recounts his life from childhood to the beginning of his Bollywood career and ends with an account of his marriage to Ratna Pathak Shah. According to various critics, this book is a must-read.

Twinkle Khanna is a well-known author. Recently, she won the Crossword Book Award for Mrs. Funny Bones and has turned into a regular columnist who is usually lauded for her progressive stance towards serious issues plaguing the country and the world. Her second novel, The Legend of Laxmi Prasad, which was released recently has also managed to garner good reviews.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra launched her book ‘The Great Indian Diet’ in Mumbai in November 2015. Shetty, who is a fitness freak and is known for her ‘yummy-mummy’ image, has co-authored the book with nutritionist Luke Coutinho.

In 2011, Anupam Kher penned an interesting book about life called “The best thing about you is you’. It was well-read and nicely received. On Twitter, he shared that he’s in the process of finishing his second book.

Actress Sonali Bendre too turned into a writer with her book ‘The Modern Gurukul: My Experiments with Parenting’. In her book, Sonali wrote about finding a balance between tradition and modernity and tips on raising a child in the digital age which are based on her personal experiences.

VJ turned actor Ayushmann Khurrana is also the author of his book Cracking the Code, which is a step-by-step guide to making it big in Bollywood.

Emraan Hashmi, who is a doting father and a dedicated family person, wrote a book on the struggles of his son Ayaan’s cancer. ‘The Kiss Of Life ‘ How A Superhero & My Son Defeated Cancer,’ co-authored with Bilal Siddiqi, traced the physical pain of the child, then three years and 10 months old, and the emotional trauma of his parents, from the diagnosis through the treatment to two cancer-free years.
