On our laptop, at any given time, at least a dozen tabs in two separate windows with some of the world’s best-dressed women are open. It reminds us of a faucet that we frequently fail to turn off. Despite the variation, Kendall Jenner’s style appeals to us. When she’s not fronting multimillion-dollar campaigns, you’ll find her on the streets of New York or Los Angeles, wearing a crop top, a vest, or an oversized jacket with some sort of hybrid trouser, fully embracing the anti-fit trend.
Her style is the one that we most identify with. That’s why we didn’t know what to think when she showed up in one of her off-duty looks wearing a half-sweater; and not the kind of elegant half-sweater that Versace and Celine have been wearing recently. It was the ugliest type. My father, in approximately 1999, was the last person we saw wearing a half-sweater like that. We didn’t feel good about it either at the time.
Now, we are not a Kendall aficionado for no reason. Even though the dad sweater, by the Belgian label Namacheko, isn’t especially appealing in and of itself, she still looks great.
Her tortoiseshell sunglasses wonderfully frame her features. She’s sporting those formal/casual crossover trousers about which we can’t get enough. The shoes, too, are unimpressive in comparison to the rest of the ensemble. There’s also the big antique Peter Do bag, which this season will give all those other buyers and totes a run for their cash.
After a seven-year hiatus, Normcore, a fashion style loosely based on idolizing the scruffy contents of our closets that would otherwise wind up in the donation bin, is making a comeback. And, while it may appear that nailing the dad/uncle look is simple, it is far from it. But with models like Kendall putting their toes in the trend this time around (it’ll only be a matter of time before Gigi, Bella, or Kaia are photographed wearing one again), inspiration to look fantastic won’t be in short supply!
