She is the daughter of Joan Grande, the CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, a developer of communications and safety equipment, and Edward Butera, Ariana’s mom is a graphic design firm owner in Boca Raton. Grande is of Italian nationality, and she regards herself as an Italian American of “half Sicilian and half Abruzzese” descent. She has an elder half-brother, Frankie Grande, an entertainer and producer and she has a close bond with her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Grande. At the age of 13, she thought about attaining a music career, although she still had her focus on theater. When she first came to Los Angeles, California for a meeting with her managers, she said she wanted to record an R&B album.
