Storage of food and grains is very important to avoid any damage due to moisture, bacteria or fungus. In monsoon moisture level is high and it’s a breeding time for bacteria and fungus. In this season food gets spoilt very easily. Here we look at the right ways to store food and grains.
* Always wrap vegetables such as cauliflower, beans, cabbage, spinach, coriander and capsicum in double sheets of newspaper and seal them in bags. Newspaper will absorb extra moisture from vegetables and will prevent rotting.
* Sugar and salt can get easily soggy in monsoon season. Store them in airtight glass jars instead of plastic or aluminum containers.
* Preventing spices from damage in monsoon season, either sun dry if possible or lightly toast them and store them in an airtight container.
* You can avoid worms attacking grains and pulses in the rainy season by storing them in freezer.
* Dairy products tend to spoil very easily. Keep Yoghurt in airtight container and cheese should be wrapped in parchment paper and stored.
* Cooked food also store in airtight container in freezer after bringing it to room temperature.
* Bread also should be wrapped properly and stored in fridge.
* Biscuits, cookies and chips wrap in blotting paper and store in a dry container.
* Always store tea and coffee in airtight container, especially in monsoon season and put a small piece blotting paper in the container.
