Clove oil is an oil that is derived from the clove trees. The clove tree, known as Syzygium aromaticum is Native to Southeast Asia. Among the Asian countries, Madagascar and Indonesia are the leading producers.
It is commonly used in aromatherapy and for flavoring food and also some medicines.
There are three types of Clove Oil-
1. Bud oil- Bud oil is derived from buds-flowers. It consists of 60-90% eugenol, acetyl eugenol, caryophyllene.
2. Leaf oil- Leaf oil is derived from the leaves. It consists of 82-88% eugenol with little or no eugenol acetate and minor constituents.
3. Stem oil- Stem oil is derived from the twigs. It consists of 90-95% eugenol with other minor constituents.
