How to become your child’s best friend?

A parent-child bond is one of the most special bonds in the world. Some parents might think strictness and discipline will help them raise the children better, while some think that being their child’s friend should be given more significance. No matter which category of parenthood you choose for, you can be your child’s best friend and raise them well at the same time by both the things. Here are a few ways that will help you befriend your children.

01) Be there for them: Most of the times, all that a child needs is someone to be there for them. They might have troubles at school or might be going through something they want to discuss or share with you. Give them the window of trust and implant their confidence, that they can come and talk to you. Following the same, your child will slowly and gradually start sharing more and more things with you.

2) Spend time with them: Take out time from your busy schedule and spend some friendly time with them. Many times kids complain about their parents saying they don’t give them enough time and attention, which makes them feel ignored and dejected. You can watch your child’s favourite movie together, make a plan to visit out to their favourite place. This will increase the bond with your child stronger.

3) Don’t be overprotective: It is necessary to ensure whether your kids are going in the right direction and are safe but being overprotective towards them is what ruins the relation. Teach them about the wrong and right, but let them decide for themselves. Give them their own space to choose what they want. In this way, they will trust you and also be self-confident.

4) Respect their choices: Be it choosing clothes or choosing a profession, some parents never let their kids make their own choices. The habit can turn toxic with time and can lower your child’s self-confidence too. Let your child make life choices. You can surely advise them along the way, but dictating their life is what you need to avoid.

5) Give them their alone time: Giving your child their own space and time is the best. Every one of us goes through a phase where all they need is personal space and time. Don’t worry if your kid starts spending more self-time. It is likely just a phase, which will fly away with time. Give your children a comfortable window, to which they can express and share what they want to.

This will surely help you improve your bond with your kid stronger and help you in becoming your child’s best friend for life.
