Having friends and family over can be quite the blast! There are so many different activities, and games that you could have planned to make the visit ten times better. But, it can also be hectic hosting an event! Being ready and having a plan is one way of making sure that the party will be enjoyable for everyone. Here are 10 steps you could prepare in advance for arriving guests.
1) Prepare a welcome gift:
Leave a welcome gift in the guest bedroom to let them know that you’re happy to have them over. It could be something simple like a flier with local attractions, a movie listing of all the good ones that are in the theater, or even a paperback book. Also, leave a short note to greet them!
2) Schedule your meals:
Plan out all your meals before your guests arrive. It doesn’t even all have to be cooked meals. You could also list a few dining-out options! Make a checklist of all the recipes and the ingredients you will need, the number of people you need to feed, and the designated person for clean up for each day.
3) Let everyone help out:
Don’t try to take everything on yourself. Working, cooking, and cleaning the whole time your guests are with you is an effective way for making them uncomfortable! Give yourself and them a chance to relax. Let everyone help out a bit as a team!
4) Plan it all out:
Like any other trip, plan out an itinerary of the visit. But make it a loose schedule. Once you’ve decided on the plan make sure everyone else is on board with the schedule.
5) Plan downtimes:
While you shouldn’t plan every minute of the visit, be sure to add in some downtime where you could go grocery shopping with one of the guests or plan movie time for all the cousins of the same age. These will create some fond memories.
6) Plan for playtime:
Keep spaces open for the little ones to do their own thing. Ask them about their schoolwork, their friends, sports they enjoy, or just thoughts on different things. It will be a special one-on-one moment!
7) Ready your guest room:
Make sure to make your guest room comfortable. These are especially important even for small trips!
8) Get out of the house:
Having people over can be quite overwhelming! Plan to get out of the house for some fun activities. Keep a lookout for movies, concerts, or museum exhibitions that you could go to during the visit.
9) Outdoor Fun:
You could also plan outdoor activities depending on the weather too! You could go on hikes, bike rides, ice-skating, or even a picnic.
10) Show and Tell:
Another activity where you won’t have to spend much is a simple show and tell. You could give your guests a tour of your home, show off your kid’s achievements, or even plan a tour of your hometown.
Planning always smoothens the process while doing anything! We hope this list helps make a perfect visit for you and your guests!
