There are many different photography backgrounds to pick from, whether you’re capturing people or products. The possibilities are endless, from simple colors to speckled canvas. Paper, materials such as muslin or canvas, MDF sheets, pop-up backgrounds, and coves are all examples of many types of backgrounds. Fabric backdrops like canvas and muslin are valued for their versatility and portability. Canvas backdrops are often larger and heavier than muslin backgrounds, but they may provide a lot of depth and color.
Muslin backgrounds are made of cotton and are therefore lighter than canvas; however, they are available in a number of forms as well. Paper rolls are available in a wide variety of widths and colors. The diversity and affordability of paper rolls are advantages, but they can be difficult to store. Another disadvantage of paper rolls is that they wrinkle easily, which can show up in your photographs. They’re also cumbersome to transport.
For product photography, many people frequently utilize wooden boards; you’ll see them in our live whisky show and in a lot of food photography seminars. Wooden boards exist in a wide range and can be had for a reasonable price. Old table tops can be repurposed as boards, and secondhand markets and antique shops are great places to find unique pieces.
Pop-up backgrounds are great for photographers shooting on the go or in cramped spaces. These reversible backdrops come in a variety of colors ranging from basic grey to speckled blue, and many of them include a reversible side. They are lightweight, portable, and inexpensive. They are, however, limited in size, making them difficult to employ for full-length photographs.
