Leh is a wonderful destination for any keen cyclist or driver, and with better roads and increased connectivity, there’s no reason to wait any longer. Take our step-by-step guide to go from Mumbai to Leh and back to realize your road trip dreams on the most talked-about adventure on two or four wheels. With more and more individuals getting into the driving and riding scene in India over the last couple of decades, it’s no surprise that road trips have become the favoured mode of transportation for many of our youth.
Taking your bike or car on a long road trip is both cost-effective and easy, and the network of highway highways has grown over time, making the idea of a long road trip even more appealing. Winter travel to Leh is not suggested because many roads are closed due to weather conditions, and the airport is also closed for long periods. If you’re travelling to Leh by motorcycle or automobile, it’s best to do so during the summer months to avoid any unexpected occurrences or delays.
By Road: Travel between May and September to minimize delays caused by inclement weather.
By Air: Flying into Leh is a convenient and time-saving alternative from April to October, although the airport is largely closed in the winter.
Take to the road and travel down the National Highway network to reach Leh in 3 to 5 days, depending on how far you want to travel and how many stops you want to make along the way. To get to Leh, you can choose either the Srinagar or Manali routes. Going to Srinagar and returning by the Manali road will give you the best of both worlds, especially since there aren’t many extra miles or time involved.
