It’s difficult to think of Robert Downey Jr. without also thinking of the fan-favorite Marvel character he so effortlessly brought to life, Tony Stark, after more than a decade of portraying the brilliant, wealthy playboy and philanthropist. Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been such a success, it’s simple to forget that Downey Jr. has been acting for more than 50 years. He has appeared in comedies, thrillers, dramas, and even an Elton John music video.
After his professional comeback was launched with Iron Man and its sequel, Iron Man 2, Robert Downey Jr. won prominent roles in well-watched comedies. Following a scene-stealing performance in Tropic Thunder, Downey Jr. linked up with Zach Galifianakis, the director of The Hangover, and the cast of the comic road movie Due Date.
To make it home for the birth of his child, Downey Jr.’s character Peter, a tightly coiled parent, was forced to share a ride with the brash, young actor Ethan (Galifianakis). Due Date was a lot of fun to see since Downey Jr. was able to play a somewhat serious straight man in contrast to Galifianakis’s slightly ridiculous act.
Robert chose to take a break from making blockbuster movies to concentrate on The Judge’s more personal, affecting story after six years of massive budgets and heavy use of the green screen. When his father, the town’s judge, is accused of murder, Downey portrays Hank Palmer, a prominent attorney who returns to his hometown.
After becoming well-known for penning the script for Lethal Weapon, Shane Black expanded his resume by penning the screenplay and directing Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, a criminal comedy. Numerous actors with international recognition, including Downey Jr., Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan, were drawn to the film due to the screenplay’s quality. When Harry Lockhart, a low-level thief, is mistaken for an actor, he travels to Hollywood. Downey Jr. played him. There, a private eye who is training him regrets working with Harry after the two become entangled in a murder investigation. Robert Downey Jr.’s career was revived as a result of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which was well received by both reviewers and viewers.
