Movies have always been the best source of entertainment. But there is a lot that happens behind the scenes when it comes to releasing the films. Sometimes it just so happens that there are censorship issues, or there is backlash from political groups. Here are 5 Bollywood movies that were dragged to court.
1) Padmaavat:
This movie got quite a bit of backpack, not only did Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone get death threats but the movie was also banned from being screened in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana. Eventually, Viacom 18 received permission for the film to be released across India after they approached the Supreme court.
2) Article 15:
There was a petition filed that the movie Article 15 contained a casteist slur and that it was a fictional story claiming to be true. The plea was rejected and no further action was taken.
3) Newton:
There was a defamation suit filed against the film for portraying the Police force in a bad light. The complaint against Manish Mundra and Shiladitya Bora sought a public apology and compensation for the complainant, the CRPF, and a soldier.
4) Knockout:
20th Century Fox filed a case of copyright infringement against the makers of Knockout which came out back in 2010. The plot was completely similar to that of the movie Phonebooth and eventually Sahial Maklai, the producer had to pay Fox an amount of 1.25 crores.
5) Udta Punjab:
There were quite a few protests against the movie. There were many complaints filed to Punjab and Haryana High Court that the movie portrayed Punjab in a bad light and that it promotes the usage of drugs. Bombay High court ruled in favor of the movie.
