John Christopher Depp II, better known by his stage name Johnny Depp, was an American actor and musician who was best recognized for his unusual and eccentric film tastes. On June 9, 1963, he was born in Owensboro, Kentucky. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Depp dropped out of high school at 16 to concentrate on his music career. His band, the Kids, relocated from Florida, where he spent most of his upbringing, to Los Angeles. In 1983, while still having difficulties as a musician, Depp wed makeup artist Lori Anne Allison. When Allison had her friend, the actor Nicolas Cage, set up an audition for Johnny with director Wes Craven, Depp made his acting debut as a teenager eaten by his own bed in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). The following year, Allison and he separated.
