Perhaps, the ideal definition of a commercial Bollywood film would that ‘dish’ whose ideal ingredients are a bit of action, comedy, tragedy & romance all clubbed together in the same story. Yes readers, that’s true. Well, atleast the footfalls and commercial box office success story of several movies tell us the same thing. Out of all the action movies, the ones which are about the ‘police’ and the cops where the main protagonist plays a rough & tough police offer work wonders at the box office and just as we would expect, almost all our superstars of contemporary Hindi cinema have earlier played the role of a supercop have turned out to be exceptionally well. From Aamir Khan to Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, and Salman Khan, all of them have nailed the cop character. So let’s take a look at the list below –
Aamir Khan – (Talaash) – Perhaps, the most versatile actor of our industry at the moment, Aamir Khan slayed the role of a cop in the 2012 flick Talaash. The presence of Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor served as a cherry on top for the movie.
Ajay Devgn – (Singham & Singham Returns) – If there’s one director who made the cop franchise particularly popular in India, it’s Rohit Shetty and it all begun with Ajay Devgn’s Singham in 2011. ‘Aata Majhi Satakli’ anyone?
Ranveer Singh – There’s absolutely no beating this man when it boils down to energy. We witnessed a similar thing in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba. Ranveer’s transformation for a police officer who survives on bribes to someone who changed the system to protect the dignity of a raped woman was truly phenomenal.
Akshay Kumar – The intense and tough Khiladi Kumar has stunned as a cop earlier in many ventures. Be it Khakee alongside Amitabh Bachchan or Madhur Bhandarkar’s AAN: Men at Work, Akshay and the role of a cop does wonders for the audience. Anticipation alert for Sooryavanshi readers?
Salman Khan – Last, but definitely not the least, our very own Dabangg of Bollywood, Mr. Chulbul Pandey. Salman’s larger than life persona brings the cop character alive and lightening on screen every time and we saw a similar thin in Garv: Pride & Honour.
