Shilpa Shetty is an Indian model and actress. She has acted in nearly 40 Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films since her debut in the 1993 film Baazigar. Her first leading role was in the 1994 film Aag. Her roles in Dhadkan (2000) and Rishtey (2002) were well received, and her portrayal of an AIDS patient in Phir Milenge (2004) earned her numerous awards. Shamita Shetty, her younger sister, is also a Bollywood actor.

Shilpa Shetty was born in Mangalore, India, into a traditional Bunt family. Shetty began her career as a model for Limca at the age of 16, and her film debut was in 1993 with Baazigar, in which she played a lady slain by her psychopathic boyfriend. Shetty played Seema in the film, which also starred Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, and was a big hit, earning her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

Her first big part was in the 1994 picture Aag, which earned mixed reviews at the box office. In the same year, she had a hit with the film Main Khiladi Tu Anari, in which she starred alongside Akshay Kumar. This was followed by a slew of films that did mediocre to terrible business at the box office.

In February 2009, Shetty married Raj Kundra, who is a co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They tied the knot on November 22, 2009. Shetty gave birth to a boy on May 21, 2012. The couple welcomed their second child, a daughter, via surrogacy on February 15, 2020.
